What You Need to Know About Your Nissan Key Fob

It's possible that you've lost your Nissan key fob or it just stopped functioning. Before you panic or contact the dealer, look back and check where you last saw it.

It's easy to change the battery in your Nissan key fob. You'll soon be able to get the hang out of it.

Smart Keys Keys

The key fob that was included with your Nissan is an essential part of the car's advanced keyless entry system. It communicates with the vehicle's electronics to unlock doors as well as start the engine. It also has an elegant design that makes it easy to put in your pocket. A key fob comes with additional convenience features, like locking out protection. This function ensures you don't accidentally leave your vehicle with the keys inside.

In contrast to previous models of key fobs, which required you to place the key in an ignition slot to gain access to your vehicle's onboard systems, smart keys function wirelessly. Nissan detects when you are near your vehicle and activates the Intelligent Key's internal functions. This could mean opening and locking the doors, lowering or raising the tailgate and even launching the engine.

Some smart key models include an invisible valet key made of metal. This key can be pulled from a release on the side of the Smart Key fob to secure the trunk or glove box prior to handing it over to the valet. The Smart Key fob has a charging pocket that can be used to charge the battery even when it is not in use.

If your Nissan's Intelligent Key fob isn't working as it should, you probably need to replace its batteries. Most fobs are powered by CR2025 or CR2032 batteries. Instructions on how to replace the batteries can be found in the owner's manual.

Intelligent Key Fob

With a Nissan Intelligent Key Fob, you can open the doors of your car and start the engine at the touch of one button. It also allows you to activate presets that are based on your preferences. For instance, you can alter the seat and mirrors for maximum comfort. You can also control the music through your smartphone so you don't have to leave your car.

Intelligent Key Fob have a built-in antenna that sends out signals when you come close to your vehicle or press one of its buttons. Once your vehicle receives this signal it activates the system, unlocking or locking doors, launching the engine, and also opening the trunk. If you want to test out the fob, stand at a distance from your vehicle, and then press the buttons. If the lights flash, or the horn sounds, then you have successfully programmed the Intelligent Key Fob.

Batteries are required for the operation of Intelligent Key Fobs. If the battery in yours is depleted the batteries, our Parts Department can help you to replace it quickly and efficiently. To do this, first remove the key that is hidden from your key fob and open the compartment for its battery. Remove the old battery, then insert a fresh one in its place. Make sure the positive side of the new one is facing the same direction that the previous one did. Close the compartment in the battery and then put the key back to its concealed position inside the case.

Remote Start

Nissan remote start is a feature that allows drivers to cool or warm their vehicle from outside the vehicle, provided they are within the operating range.  The Keylab  in the car is activated when a driver presses an appropriate button on the key fob or smartphone application. Remote start systems can also turn on the climate control so that the driver can set their preferred temperature. Some systems offer two-way communications that allow the driver to know what's happening in their vehicle.

Battery power is the most common reason why your remote is not working. The key fob has the battery, which is small and replaceable that lasts around two years before needing to be replaced. The battery can be replaced easily, but you'll have to know where the hidden key is on your Intelligent Key Fob and how to access the battery compartment.

To do so switch your fob on its side and press the key release latch located on the back of the key pad. Once the key pad is fully opened, remove the old battery and replace it with a new one, ensuring that it is in line with the size and configuration of the current battery. Be sure to install the hidden key and restore the key fob to its original configuration before closing the outer case. Our parts department will assist you with replacing the battery on your Intelligent Key fob.

Lockout Protection

Lockout protection eliminates the nuisance of lockouts that are caused by impedance relay failure. A special module within the power control is able to monitor the activity of the impedance relay and shuts off the output. This feature is only available on vehicles that have the Smart Key system or through the vehicle personalization menu.

Many serious accidents have occurred because an equipment started running when it was supposed to shut off to prevent repairs or maintenance. These incidents are typically the result of energy that has not been released properly. Lock-out tag-out (LOTO) systems can prevent these accidents by making sure that machines remain completely off until the authorized individual releases them.

The LOTO system consists of a number of locks, tags, and other devices that are used to secure, isolate, or block a device from an electric source. All "affected", "authorized" and "qualified" personnel must be taught about the use of these devices. These devices include, but are not only restricted to chains, locks, and padlocks. Each device is uniquely identified and labeled, indicating the date and time at which it was used, the name and title of the person who is authorized, and the purpose of the lockout/tagout (repairs, maintenance, etc.). It must be clear that these devices are not able to be removed until an entire LOTO procedure has been followed.
